Cam Newton returns to practice Wednesday, fantasy status still in question

The Panthers’ star quarterback is back at practice. We break down the fantasy implications.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (back) participated in a limited practice session on Wednesday, according to Steve Reed of The Associated Press. Newton is recovering from a car accident that caused him to sit out last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Impact: Although Newton and the Panthers have looked absolutely atrocious at times this season, the team is still in the hunt for an NFC South division title, which would lock up a playoff spot.

To say the least, Newton has had a rough year individually. He struggled with a rib injury early in the season that seemed to limit his ability to scramble and move around the pocket. Even after indicating he was back at full strength a few weeks into the season, Newton struggled taking care of the football.

Teammate Derek Anderson started in Newton’s place last week and would likely go again this week against the Cleveland Browns if Cam can’t start.

Fantasy owners should wait for Thursday’s practice reports to come out before making any assumptions.
