Cam Newton gets full practice, on track to make fantasy return
Cam Newton is practicing in full after missing a game due to a car accident. We break down the fantasy implications.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was upgraded to a full practice Thursday. The Panthers have yet to confirm his Week 16 status, but it sounds like Newton is on track to make his return against the Cleveland Browns.
Newton missed Week 15 after suffering broken vertebrae in a car accident. It’s the same type of injury that kept Tony Romo out for one game. Derek Anderson will fill in again if Newton has a setback. Newton had one of his best games of the year in Week 4, throwing for three touchdowns and 226 yards against the New Orleans Saints.
Fantasy impact: Newton is expected to play, but he’s been banged up and extremely streaky this year. The Browns allow just 221.9 passing yards per game, ranking seventh in the league. it’s hard to trust Newton as a QB1 for fantasy championship week, although his potential running ability should give him a higher floor than most QB2 candidates.
