Texas Rangers vs. Cleveland Indians
The Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Indians face off on Monday in Arlington as they close out their four game series.
The Texas Rangers are starting to slide in the AL West standings as they have dropped their last two games of this series to the Indians. On Sunday Adian Beltre and Alex Rios each had two hits and Rougned Odor had a hit as the Rangers scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Joe Saunders allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned, over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-2 for the season. For Monday’s game the Rangers start Nicholas Martinez who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Martinez has allowed 51 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 21 over 44.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 3.22 ERA.
The Cleveland Indians have moved up to second place in the AL Central after winning on Sunday for the eighth time in their last 10 games. Lonnie Chisenhall and David Murphy had two hits each and Carlos Santana and Yan Gomes each had hits as the Indians scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Justin Masterson has allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out six over 5.2 innings to get the win and go to 4-4 for the season and Cody Allen earned his sixth save. For Monday’s game the Indians start T.J. House who is still looking for his first major League win. For the season House has allowed 22 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 13 over 19 innings for a 0-1 record and a 3.79 ERA.
Texas is 7-0 in game four of a series, 5-11 as an underdog, and 4-1 in Martinez’s last five starts. Cleveland is 8-1 in their last nine games, 5-2 in game four of a series, and 36-16 against a team with a losing record. Cleveland is 7-2 in their last nine meetings against Texas.
This series has been as close as expected and I like for the Rangers to get the split with the win on Monday.
