Houston Astros vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Houston Astros and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Wednesday in Houston as they continue their interleague series. The Astros are -120 favorites over the Diamondbacks with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Houston Astros have been improving this season but on Tuesday they were simply no match as they fell to the D-backs. Jonathan Singleton had three hits, Alex Presley had two hits, and Dexter Fowler had a hit as the Astros scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Brad Peacock allowed three hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Josh Fields took the loss to fall to 1-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Astros start Dallas Keuchel who has won five of his last six starts. For the season Keuchel has allowed 68 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 70 over 82.2 innings for a 7-3 record and a 2.50 ERA.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have had an awful season but they cruised to the win beating the Astros on Tuesday. Paul Goldschmidt had two hits including a home run and Martin Prado and Aaron Hill had hits as the Diamondbacks scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo allowed six hits and a run while striking out five over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 6-4 for the season and Addison Reed earned his 16th save. For Wednesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Brandon McCarthy who has lost his last two starts. For the season McCarthy has allowed 92 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 72 over 79 innings for a 1-8 record and a 5.13 ERA.
Houston is 9-4 against a right-handed starter, 22-49 I their last 71 home games, and 5-1 in Keuchel’s last six starts. Arizona is 7-2 in their last nine games, 4-1 as a road underdog, and 2-8 in McCarthy’s last 10 starts as a road underdog. Arizona is 22-5 in the last 27 meetings of these two.
With the total set at eight I have this one squeaking over.
