Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles

The Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles face off on Thursday at Tropicana Field as they close out their series.
The Tampa Bay Rays are off tot heir usual slow start and they lost on Wednesday to the Baltimore Orioles. David DeJesus hit a home run, Wil Myers had two hits, and Matt Joyce had a hit as the Rays scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Cesar Ramos allowed three hits and two runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to not get a decision as Brandon Gomes took the loss to fall to 1-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Rays Start David Price who overall hasn’t looked like his normal effective self. For the season Price has allowed 52 hits and 24 runs while straining out 55 over 48.2 innings for a 3-2 record and a 4.44 ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles have been hanging around in the AL East standings and they helped their cause on Wednesday getting a road win. Adam Jones hit two home runs, Jonathan Schoop hit a home run, and Nick Markakis had a hit as the Orioles scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Bud Norris allowed three hits and two runs while striking out five to not get a decision as Brian Matusz blew the save and Ryan Webb got the win and Tommy Hunter earned his 10th save. For Thursday’s game the Orioles start Ubaldo Jimenez who got his first win of the season in his last start. For the season Jimenez has allowed 36 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 31 over 34.2 innings for a 1-4 record and a 5.19 ERA.
Tampa Bay is 1-5 as a home favorite, 16-8 against a team with a winning record, and 8-3 in Price’s last 11 starts. Baltimore is 5-1 against the AL East, 1-4 in game three of a series, and 1-5 in Jimenez’s last six starts. Baltimore is 6-11 in their last 17 games against the Rays.
While the odds here make it tough to take the Rays I still feel they are the best option in this one.
