Oakland Athletics vs. Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland A’s face off on Wednesday at Tropicana Field for game two of their series. The Rays are -115 favorites over the Athletics with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Tampa Bay Rays forgot to bring their bats to the ballpark on Tuesday as they were shutout by the A’s. Brandon Guyer, James Loney, and Yunel Escobar each had hits as the Rays failed to score on four hits. Starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi allowed four hits and three runs while striking out eight over 4.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-4 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rays start Erik Bedard who has won his last two decisions. For the season Bedard has allowed 28 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 22 over 32.1 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.78 ERA.
The Oakland A’ continue to roll as they are clearly one of the best teams in baseball this season. Coco Crisp had two hits as did Nick Punto and Eric Sogard as the A’s scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz allowed three hits and and struck out here over five scoreless innings to get the win and go to 4-1 for the season and Sean Doolittle earned his third save. For Wednesday’s game the Ray start Tommy Milone who has a no decision and a win in his last two starts. For the season Milone has allowed 38 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 27 over 41.2 innings for a 1-3 record and a 4.10 ERA.
Tampa Bay is 5-11 as a favorite, 1-8 in their last nine home games, and 4-10 in their last 14 games. Oakland is 10-1 in their last 11 games, 26-10 in their last 36 home games, and 0-4 in Milone’s last four road starts.
While the A’s are red hot, this looks like a spot where the Rays have an edge over them.
