Albert Pujols and Howie Kendrick each had two hits and Mike Trout had a hit as the Angels scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Garrett Richards didn’t have his best stuff and didn’t get enough support to bail him out as he allowed 10 hits and five runs over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Angels start Tyler Skaggs who they are very high on. For the season Skaggs has allowed 47 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 33 over 51.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 4.53 ERA.
The Houston Astros no longer have the worst record in baseball and they won for the third time in a row beating the Angels on Monday. Jose Altuve, Jason Castro, and Matt Dominguez each had two hits as the Astros scored five runs on 10 hits in all. Starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel just missed making it the distance as he allowed five hits and two runs while striking out eight over 8.2 innings to get the win and go to 5-2 for the season. For the season Feldman has allowed 31 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 18 over 37.2 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.63 ERA.
Los Angeles is 6-1 following a loss, 5-2 as a favorite, and 4-1 in Skaggs’ last five home starts. Houston is 17-43 in their last 60 games, 15-41 as an underdog, and 12-41 against a team with a winning record. Houston is 2-5 in the last seven meetings of these two.
The Astros have been playing well of late but the Angels are still the better team right now and the better option here.
