The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington nationals face off on Tuesday in game two of their series in Arizona. The Nationals are -130 favorites over the Diamondbacks with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Arizona Diamondbacks appeared to have Monday’s game in hand but they let it get away late and took another loss. A.J. Pollack hit a home run, Aaron Hill had three hits, and Martin Prado had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored five runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Josh Collmenter allowed four hits and four runs while striking out two over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Addison Reed blew his second save to fall to 1-3 for the season. For Tuesday’s game Arizona starts Bronson Arroyo who has won his last two starts. For the season Arroyo has allowed 44 hits and 21 runs while striking out 20 over 38.2 innings for a 3-2 record and a 4.89 ERA.
The Washington Nationals looked done on Monday but they never quit hitting back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning to get the win. Denard Span had three hits and Kevin Frandsen, Tyler Moore, Ian Desmond, and Danny Espinosa all hit home runs as the Nationals scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to nto get a decision as Tyler Clippard got the win to go to 3-2 for the season and Rafael Soriano earned his eighth save. For Tuesday’s game the Nats start Stephen Strasburg who has won his last to decisions. For the season Strasburg has allowed 49 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 64 over 47.1 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.42 ERA.
Arizona is 7-20 in their last 27 home games, 1-6 against the NL East, and 1-11 in their last 12 games as a home underdog. Washington is 40-16 as a favorite, 1-5 in their last six road games, and 4-1 in Strasburg’s last five road starts. Washington is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings of these two.
The total is set at eight but I see this one staying under that number.
