New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets face off on Wednesday at Turner Field for game three of their NL East series. The Braves are -140 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 7.
The Atlanta Braves played their home opener on Tuesday but the party was spoiled by the Mets. Justin Upton had two hits and B.J. Upton, Freddie Freeman, and Chris Johnson were among those with hits as the Braves failed to score a run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Aaron Harang allowed two hits and a run while striking out nine over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Monday’s game the Braves start Ervin Santana who they acquired this season. Over recent years when Santana is on he is as good as any pitcher in the game but he has also been a slow starter in most years.
The New York Mets haven’t had the best start to the season but they were good enough on Tuesday to get the win in Atlanta. On Tuesday Eric Young, Travis d’Arnaud, and Ruben Tejada each had two hits as the Mets scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Bartolo Colon pitched a masterpiece allowing six hits and striking out five over 7.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 1-1. For Wednesday’s game the Mets start Zach Wheeler who lost in his first start this year. In his first start Wheeler allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings of work against eh Nationals.
Atlanta is 5-0 in game two of a series, 7-3 following a loss, 67-30 at home, and 46-22 as a home favorite. New York is 8-1 in their last nine road games, 6-12 against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 in Wheeler’s last four starts.
The total is set at seven and while both of these pitchers are solid I like the over.
