Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals

The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals face off on Wednesday in game two of their National League East series. The Marlins are -140 favorites over the Nationals with an over/under run total set at 6.5
The Miami Marlins had a promising start to the season this year but have quickly faded to the bottom of the NL East yet they hardly looked the part whipping the Nationals on Tuesday 11-2. Giancarlo Stanton had two hits including a home run and drove in five runs, Marcell Ozuna had four hits and scpred three runs, and Casey McGehee had three hits and drove in two as the Marlins scored their 11 runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed just one hit while walking five and striking out three over 7.0 innings to get the win to raise his record to 2-1 for the season. For Wednesday’s game Miami starts Jose Fernandez who is coming off of his first loss of the year. For the season Fernandez has allowed 16 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 23 over 16.2 innings for a 2-1 record and 3.78 ERA.
The Washington Nationals are in second place in the NL East but they lost a half of a game more ground on Tuesday losing in Miami when the Braves were rained out. Zach Walters hit a home run and Bryce harper and Anthony Rendon had hits as the Nationals scored two runs on five hits in all. Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg was pounded allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out five over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-2 on the season. For Wednesday’s game the Nationals start Tanner Roark who makes his third start of the season. Thus far Roark has allowed 11 hits and seven runs while striking out eight over 10.2 innings for a 1-0 record and a 5.91 ERA.
Miami is 10-3 in their last 13 home games, 7-14 at home against a right-handed starter, and 15-2 in Fernandez’s last 17 home starts. Washington is 21-9 against the NL East, 17-35 as an underdog, and 4-1 in Roark’s last five starts against the NL East. Washington is 4-2 in their last six games in Miami.
