Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees
The Houston Astros and the New York Yankees face off on Thursday in game three of their series. The Yankees are -140 favorites over the Astros with an over/under run total set at 8.5
The Houston Astros have started their season off right winning their first two games against the Yankees and they are on the verge of a sweep of the series. On Wednesday Dexter Fowler had two hits and scored two runs and Matt Dominguez hit a home run and Robbie Grossman ad a hit and drove in a run as the Astros scored three runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Jarred Cosart allowed four hits and struck out three over 5.0 scoreless innings to get the win and Josh Fields earned the save. For Thursday’s game Houston starts Brett Oberholtzer who was 4-5 a year ago allowing 66 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 45 over 71.2 innings of work for a 2.76 ERA.
After missing the playoffs last season the New York Yankees haven’t gotten off to the start they had hoped for in 2014. On Wednesday Brian Roberts had three hits, Brian McCann had two hits, and Carlos Beltran and Bret Gardener each had hits as the Yankees scored just one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda allowed three hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings of work to take the loss. For Thursday’s game the Yankees look to avoid the sweep as they send Ivan Nova to the mound for the start. Last season Nova was 9-6 with a 3.10 ERA allowing 135 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 116 over 139.1 innings of work.
Houston is 25-57 in their last 82 home games, 23-62 in their last 85 games, and 0-4 in Oberholtzer’s last four starts. New York is 7-3 against the AL West, 1-4 in game three of a series, and 14-6 in Nova’s last 20 starts as a road favorite. New York has won six of their last eight games against Houston.
While the writing is on the wall and it is the changing of the guard for the Yankees I still believe they avoid the sweep and get the win here
