Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Wednesday at Wrigley Field in game two of their three game series. The Pirates are -125 favorites over the Cubs with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Chicago Cubs are in yet another rebuilding year as they came up short against the Pirates on Tuesday. Starlin Castro had three hits including two home runs,, Emilio Bonifcio had three hits, and Anthony Rizzo had two hits as the Cubs scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Edwin Jackson allowed nine hits and six runs while striking out for over 4.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Pedro Strop took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Jason Hammel who earned a win in his first start this year. In his first outing Hammel allowed two hits and a run while striking out five over 6.2 innings of work at Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Pirates let their lead on Tuesday slip away but they battled back again and got te lead for good getting the win. Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez, Russell Martin, and Neil Walker each had two hits as the Pirates scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Charlie Morton allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings of work to not factor in the decision as Tony Watson took the blown save but he also got the win to go to 2-0 and Jason Grilli earned his second save of the year. For Wednesday’s game the Pirates start Wandy Rodriguez who allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to lose to the Cubs.
Chicago is 17-36 as an underdog, 20-46 in their last 66 games, and 7-18 as a home underdog. Pittsburgh is 9-3 in their last 12 road games, 6-2 as a favorite, and 6-2 in Rodriguez’s last eight road starts. Pittsburgh has won seven of the last nine meetings of these two.
I see a lot of runs being scored and this game going over the total of 8.
