Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets
The New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks will begin a three-game series on Monday. The Diamondbacks are -115 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Mets have lost three of their last five games and just lost two of three from the Los Angeles Angels. The Mets pitching staff hasn’t been great recently, allowing 25 runs in their last three games, while Curtis Granderson has just seven hits in 44 at bats. Zack Wheeler hopes to get the Mets on track, but he’s 0-2 on the season with an ERA of 5.73 despite striking out 12 batters in 11 innings. Wheeler is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.42 in his only career start against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks were just swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers and fall to 4-11 on the season overall. Arizona’s offense is keeping the team in games, but the Diamondbacks pitching staff has allowed five or more runs in four straight games. Josh Collmenter will make his first start of the season after pitching in eight innings and allowing two runs and striking out four batters. Collmenter hasn’t started a game in two years and has 35 starts in his career. Collmenter is 1-1 with an ERA of 4.50 in his career against the Mets.
The Mets are 4-0 in Wheeler’s last 4 road starts vs. a team with a losing record and 0-5 in Wheeler’s last 5 starts. The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in Collmenter’s last 5 home starts and 2-6 in their last 8 vs. National League East. The Mets are 4-9 in the last 13 meetings in Arizona.
How anybody can back the Diamondbacks with the way they’ve started the season is beyond me. Collmenter hasn’t started a game in quite some time and it’s only a matter of time before Granderson wakes up with the bat. Getting the Mets plus money is great value against an Arizona team that is finding every possible way to lose.
