Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers play host to the Phoenix Suns on Monday night from STAPLES Center. The Clippers are -10 point favorites over the Suns.
Head to head, the favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings. The Clippers are 6-0 in their last 6 vs. Western Conference, 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games following a ATS loss and 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. The Suns on the other hand are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 road games, 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games following a S.U. loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
I was all ready to take the over in this game until I looked at their results this season. Individually, the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns are two of the NBA’s premier offensive units, averaging 107.8 and 105.5 points per game on the season, respectively. However, that’s not the case when they face each other as their two meetings this season have resulted in totals of 195 and 200 points, with the last meeting taking place in Phoenix just last week. I would still take the over if I had to pick because I don’t think they will play three low scoring games in a row, but 220 points in a big jump from 195 and 200. Instead, I’ll be taking Suns getting double digits.
While Phoenix did play a tough game in Golden State last night, which resulted in a 113-107 defeat, don’t forget that this team has already taken down the Clippers on their home court this season 107-88. Also, let’s not forget the fact that they have covered the spread in 20 of their past 28 games on the road, which is very very hard to do. On the flipside, LA comes into this contest having won seven straight, but they were lucky to win their last meeting, narrowly escaping the visiting Atlanta Hawks 109-108. While Atlanta isn’t a bad team, their form over the past month has been really really bad.
To be honest, I would take Phoenix getting double-digits on the road every single time. I don’t care if they are playing in Miami, Indiana (who they beat), Oklahoma City, you name it. Also, the fact that they took down the Clipps by 19 at their joint helps a bit too. While they are playing on a back-to-back, they had two days rest before last night’s game against the Warriors, so fatigue shouldn’t be a huge issue. Los Angeles also got their revenge last week in Phoenix, which also helps things
