Western Carolina Catamounts vs. Furman Paladins

The Western Carolina Catamounts and the Furman Paladins face off on Monday in SoCon college basketball. The Catamounts are -13 point favorites over the Paladins.
The Western Carolina Catamounts have won two of their last three games and they are currently in fifth place in the SoCon standings. WCU is 6-3 in the SoCon, 9-1 at home this season, and they have just one win over a team with a RPI better than 200. Trey Sumler is the Catmounts leading scorer averaging 18.4 points per game. Brandon Boggs is averaging 10.8 points, James Sinclair is averaging 10.8 points, and Tom Tankelewicz is averaging 9.4 points. WCU hasn’t played Furman since 2012.
The Furman Paladins have lost four games in a row and are mired in 10th place in the SoCon Standings. Furman is 3-10 on the road this season and 1-9 in conference play. Stephen Croone is averaging 19.3 points to lead the Paladins. Kendrec Ferrara is averaging 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds, Larry Wideman is averaging 10.1 points, and William Gates Jr. is averaging 8.2 points. Furman is averaging 65.8 points per game and they are shooting 44.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 73.8 points and their opponents are shooting 46.1 percent. Furman is having a season they would like to forget.
Western Carolina is 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 home games against a team with a losing road record, 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games, and 0-4 against the spread following a win. Furman is 8-20 against the spread in their last 28 games, 5-13 against the spread against the SoCon, and 6-13 against the spread following a loss. The road team has covered the point spread in six of the last eight meetings of these two.
Furman’s defense is terrible and I look for WCU to have their way here and cover the big number.
