Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets

The NBA goes global as the Atlanta Hawks collide with the Brooklyn Nets from London, England. The Nets are -2 point favorites over the Hawks.
Head to head, the Nets are 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Atlanta while the home team is 15-7 ATS in the last 22 meetings. The Hawks are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, but just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The Nets on the other hand are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, but just 1-4 ATS in their last five road games vs. a team with a winning % of greater than .600 and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
The Atlanta Hawks have been very strong at home this season and while this is technically considered a home game, they will be a long way from Atlanta when this game gets under way as this will be the NBA’s first regular-season game in London. The Hawks come into this international showdown against the Brooklyn Nets having lost five of their past eight matches as they continue to adjust to life without All-Star Al Horford. Having said that, they have been competitive in every game since the Horford went down right around Christmas as none of their losses have come by more than seven points. Among their three wins in New Year include impressive back-to-back wins over Indiana and Houston despite being underdogs in both meetings.
The Brooklyn Nets on the other hand have had an impressive start to 2014, winning five of six as they continue their climb up the Eastern Conference standings. The Nets enjoyed a recent four-game home stand in which they swept all four games against the likes of Miami, Golden State and tonight’s opponent in Atlanta. In their first meeting of the season, it was Joe Johnson who led the way with 23 points on 10-22 shooting while Mirza Teletovic added 16 of his own of the bench as the Nets held off a pesky Hawks squad.
Super tough game to cap this one. For one, it’s being played overseas, so it’s basically an away game for both teams. The problem with that is neither the Hawks or Nets are good road teams this season as they have combined to win just 11 of their 26 games away from home. Their first meeting of the season was a close on as well as Brooklyn managed to hold onto the victory at home. I wouldn’t bet on this game for obvious reasons, but I think the Hawks can get some payback on the Nets here.
