Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans
The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans face off on Sunday in Jacksonville in a battle of AFC South teams who will be drafting in the top 10 picks in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Titans are -5.5 point favorites over the Jaguars with an over/under point total set at 42.5.
The Jacksonville jaguars have been playing their best football of the season of late but we saw again last Sunday that they have plenty of work to do as they blundered their way to a loss against the Bills. The Jags turned the ball over twice inside the Buffalo five yard line and turned certain scores in zero points and lost by seven. Chad Henne has completed 60 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Maurice Jones-Drew is once again questionable after missing last week and if he isn’t ready to go it will be Jordan Todman. Cecil Shorts has 6 receptions and Ace Sanders has 41 catches. Paul Posluszny has 139 tackles, John Cyprien has 89 tackles, and Geno Hayes has 78 tackles. The Jaguars are averaging 15.8 points and 290.1 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 28.5 points and their opponents are averaging 28.5 points and 381.8 yards per game. The Jaguars have made some forward strides in the second half of the season but they still have some work in front of them.
The Tennessee Titans have lost three games in a row and five of their last six but as bad as the AFC South is that is good enough for second place. The Titans have been competitive in most of their games losing several by three or less but the result still shows as a loss. Ryan Fitzpatrick has completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as he fills in for the injured Jake Locker. Chris Johnson has rushed for 860 yards and five touchdowns and he has caught 38 passes out of the backfield to anchor the Titans running game. Kendall Wright has 85 receptions, Delanie Walker has 53 catches, and Nate Washington has 50 catches. Bernard Pollard has 88 tackles to lead the Titans defense, Zach Brown has 79, and Jurrell Casey has 10.5 sacks. The Titans average 23.3 points and 338.1 yards per game and defensively they are allowing 25.4 points and their opponents average 345 yards per game. The Titans look to have put together some solid players in key spots but this just wasn’t their year.
Jacksonville is 5-2 against the spread against the AFC South, 3-7 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games. Tennessee is 4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six games against the AFC. Tennessee is 1-5 against the spread in the last six meetings of these two.
This game should be close so getting over a field goal with the home team seems like a solid play to me.
