Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

The Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints face off on Thursday Night in Atlanta for the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. The Saints are -8 point favorites over the Falcons with an over/under poin total set at 53.
The Atlanta Falcons have had a disaster of a season as a team that has been in the playoffs the past several years has just imploded. The Falcons have just two wins for the year and in most games they haven’t been competitive. The Falcons offense is averaging 21.4 points and 347.5 yards per game but it is the minus 11 turnover ratio that is just killing them. Matt Ryan has completed 6.1 percent of his passes for 2,868 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Jacquizz Rodgers is averaging 3.6 yards per carry and Steven Jackson averages 3.3 yards per carry as the Falcons rushing attack has been ineffective. Tony Gonzalez has 54 catches and four touchdowns and Harry Douglas has 51 catches and two touchdowns. The Falcons defense allows 29.2 points and 381.9 yards per game and they have 21 sacks this season. Paul Worrilow has 71 tackles, William Moore has 56 tackles, and Osi Umneyiora has 6.5 sacks. The Falcons are quietly looking at a top ten pick in the NFL draft.
The New Orleans Saints are sitting on top of the NFC South and with several showdown games out of the way they are looking like a team headed for one of the top seeds in the NFC Playoffs. The Saints offense is averaging 28.8 points and 419.1 yards per game, both numbers that are ranked second in the NFL. Drew Brees has completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 3,369 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Pierre Thomas is averaging 3.9 yards per carry and he has 51 receptions, Mark Ingram is averaging 5.4 yards per carry, and Darren Sproles averages 3.8 yards per carry and he has 48 receptions. Jimmy Graham is the Saints top pass catcher with 60 receptions and 10 touchdowns and Marques Colston has 39 catches. Defensively the Saints are allowing 18.3 points and 305.4 yards per game. Curtis Lofton has 77 tackles, David Hawthorne has 55 tackles, and Cameron Jordan has 7.0 sacks. The Saints have played and beaten many of the toughest teams this season including a win over the 49ers on Sunday.
Atlanta is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight home games, 1-5 against the spread against the NFC South, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games. New Orleans is 6-2 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 4-0 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games. The home team has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
Traditionally the games between these two are high scoring and look for the Falcons to open it up here to try and pull the upset and I have this one going over the total

Over 53
