Missouri Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

The Missouri Tigers are the surprise team in the country in college football this season as they are unbeaten and have a two game lead in the SEC East as well as a number five ranking. The Missouri offense has been getting it done averaging 44.3 points per game and 513.4 yards while turning the ball over eight times. With James Franklin out Maty Mauk was impressive last week in his first start at QB completing 50 percent of his passes for 295 yards with a touchdown and an interception and rushing for a touchdown. Henry Josey has been impressive rushing the football averaging 6.0 yards per carry with eight touchdowns and Russell Hansbrough is averaging 6.8 yards per carry with three touchdowns. The Mizzou receivers have been impressive as well with Marcus Lucas leading with 36 catches, L’Damian Washington having 32 catches and seven touchdowns, and Dorial Green-Beckham with 30 catches and four touchdowns. The Missouri defense is allowing 22.1 points and 381 yards per game with 14 interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and 23 sacks. Andrew Wilson has 50 tackles, Braylon Webb has 48 tackles, and Michael Sam has been a force with nine sacks. Missouri has been impressive but it never gets easier in the SEC.
The South Carolina Gamecocks backs are to the wall as they loss to Tennessee last week making it their second loss of the season. The South Carolina offense is averaging 32.6 points and 471.9 yards per game while turning the ball over 12 times. Connor Shaw left last week’s game with a knee injury and he is questionable for this one and if he isn’t ready to go it will be Dylan Thompson who has seen plenty of action this year. Mike Davis is averaging 6.7 yards per carry with 10 touchdowns and he has 17 catches and Brandon Wilds has a 4.7 yard per carry average. Bruce Ellington has 21 catches and three touchdowns and Damiere Byrd and Nick Jones have 19 catches each. The South Carolina defense is allowing 22.7 points and 342.6 yards per game with five interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 15 sacks. Jimmy Legree has 32 tackles and two interceptions, Kelcy Quarles has five sacks, and Jadeveon Clowney doesn’t have the numbers in the stat sheet but the extra attention he gets makes everyone on the South Carolina defense better. South Carolina had big hopes coming into the season and they are fading.
Missouri is 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games, 6-0-1 against the spread in their last seven games, and 6-1 against the spread in their last seven SEC games. South Carolina is 1-4 against the spread in their last five SEC games, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 10-4 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread.
The Tigers are -5 point favorites over the Gamecocks and I like the Tigers to cover and win this by more the 10.
