Jacksonville Jaguars vs. San Diego Chargers

The Jacksonville Jaguars look for their first win of the 2013 season as they host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. The Chargers are -8 point favorites over the Jaguars with an over/under point total set at 44.
The Jacksonville jaguars have yet to win a game this season and they haven’t been close to winning any of the games losing by double digits in all six. The Jaguars have the worst offense in the NFL ranking last in points per game with 11.7 and yards per game with 270.2 and they are minus six in turnover margin. Chad Henne has as taken over at QB but he hasn’t been good completing 58.4 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions and he has been sacked 10 times but the Jags could go back to Blaine Gabbert who has been injured but is questionable this week. Maurice Jones-Drew is the main option in the Jacksonville running game averaging 2.9 yards per carry with two touchdowns and he has just eight receptions. The Jaguars receivers are led by Cecil Shorts with 31 receptions, Justin Blackmon has 19 catches, and Ace Sanders has 15 catches. The Jaguars defense allows a 31st ranked 33 points per game and 384.3 yards with three interceptions, 10 sacks, and five fumble recoveries. Paul Posluszny has 54 tackles, John Cyprien has 41 tackles, and Geno Hayes has 35 tackles. The Jaguars are going to need to find some answers soon or this season is going to get even longer.
The San Diego Chargers enter week seven at 3-3 and with two unbeaten teams in the AFC West that leaves them in third place. The Chargers offense is averaging 24 points and 397.7 yards per game but they are minus seven in turnover margin. Phillip Rivers has completed 72.6 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions while being sacked 10 times as his release looks as quick as ever. Ryan Mathews is averaging 3.8 yards per carry and Danny Woodhead is averaging 3.9 yards per carry and he has 36 receptions and three receiving touchdowns. Antonio Gates has 36 catches and two touchdowns, Vincent Brown has 24 catches and a touchdown, and Keenan Allen has 23 catches and two touchdowns. The San Diego defense allows 23 points and 382.8 yards per game with two interceptions, 14 sacks, and five fumble recoveries. Eric Weddle has 42 tackles, Donald Butler has 31 tackles, Richard Marshall has 29 tackles. The Chargers are legitimate threats to make the post season.
Jacksonville is 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 home games, 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 1-5 against the spread following a loss. San Diego is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six road games, 2-6 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 0-6-1 against the spread following a win. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Jacksonville has been horrible thus far and the turnovers have been the Chargers undoing in their losses but I just don’t see the Jags having enough to contend here despite the Chargers playing on Monday Night and then making a cross country road trip.
