Arizona St Sun Devils vs. Washington Huskies

The Arizona State Sun Devils and the Washington Huskies face off on Saturday Night in a battle of two loss Pac-12 teams. The Sun Devils are -3 point favorites over the Huskers.
The Arizona State Sun Devils bounced back from their loss to Notre Dame by blasting Colorado and look to carry that momentum forward for this game. For the season the ASU offense is averaging 44.2 points and 496.5 yards per game while turning the ball over eight times. Sun Devil QB Taylor Kelly has completed 62 percent of his passes with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions as well as a rushing touchdown. Marion Grice anchors the Arizona State rushing attack with a 4.4 yards per carry average and 10 touchdowns and he has 29 receptions and five receiving touchdowns. Jaelen String has 42 catches with four touchdowns, D.J. Foster has 32 catches and a touchdown, and Chris Goyle has 13 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively Arizona State is allowing 27.2 points and 372.2 yards per game with 10 interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 10 sacks. Chris Young has 41 tackles, Alden Darby has 29 tackles, and Davon Coleman has 29 tackles. ASU will be tested on both sides of the ball in this one.
The Washington Huskies are coming off of back-to-back losses after playing Stanford and Oregon and they are looking to get back to winning. The Washington offense is averaging 35.3 points and 528.8 yards per game and they have turned the ball over eight times. Huskies QB Keith Price has completed 69.3 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions and he has rushed for another touchdown and has proved himself to be a leader. Bishop Sankey has rushed for just shy of 900 yards averaging 5.7 yards per carry with nine touchdowns and he has 14 catches and another score receiving and Jesse Callier averages 6.1 yards per carry and he has three touchdowns. Jaydon Mickens leads UW in receiving with 34 catches and two touchdowns, Kevin Smith has 24 catches and two touchdowns, and Kasen Williams has 24 catches and a touchdown. The Washington defense allows 19.8 points and 345 yards per game with seven interceptions, 16 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Princeton Fuimaono leads the Husky defense with 44 tackles, Shaq Thompson has 41 tackles and John Timu has four tackles. While the past two weeks have shown Washington isn’t ready to compete with the elite teams, they still have a solid and talented team that is headed in the right direction.
Arizona State is 5-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 4-1 against the spread against the Pac-12, and 3-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Washington is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight Pac-12 games, 6-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-0 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread. Arizona State has covered the point spread the last seven times these two teams have met.
When I look at the quality of the losses there is a big edge here to Washington and throw in ASU’s home win over Wisconsin where the scoreboard read a win but it can be said it was a product of the circumstances and not what happened on the field. While a win is a win in the standings, for our purposes what happens on the field is more important. Washington is the better team and even on the r0ad the points look like a gift here.
