Texas Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Texas Rangers and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off for an interleague series on Monday in Arlington. The Rangers are -170 favorites over the Pirates with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Texas Rangers are now the chasers in the A.L. West as the season enters its’ final three weeks. The Rangers trail the Oakland A’s but it has been a back and forth battle which may not be decided until the final days of the season. As a team the Rangers are hitting .263 with Adrian Beltre hitting .319, A.J. Pierzynski hitting .281, and Ian Kinsler hitting .273. For Monday’s game the Rangers start Yu Darvish who is 12-7 with a 2.91 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 4.82 ERA in his last three starts.
The Pittsburgh Pirates looked to be in control of the N.L. Central but now they are in danger of dropping to third place and the final Wildcard spot. The Pirates were swept over the weekend by St. Louis and they have lost four games in a row as they trail the Cards by 1.5 games. As a team the Pirates are hitting .247 with Andrew McCutchen hitting .322, Starling Marte hitting .282, and Jose Tabata hitting .275. For game one against the Rangers the Pirates start Gerit Cole who is 6-7 with a 3.74 ERA on the season and 0-2 with a 3.26 ERA in his last three starts.
Texas is 14-4 in their last 18 interleague home games, 2-5 in their last seven games overall, and 0-4 in Darvish’s last four starts. Pittsburgh is 7-1 in their last eight games as an interleague underdog, 12-5 in their last 17 games as a road underdog, and 4- 1 in Cole’s last five starts in game one of a series. Pittsburgh has lost six in a row in Texas.
Both of these pitchers can bring it but neither of them has consistently so my pick is on the over.
