The Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays face off for the final time this season as they meet on Thursday at Camden Yards. The Orioles are -134 favorites over the Blue Jays with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Baltimore Orioles are eliminated from the post-season race but they still broke out the bats and pounded the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Ryan Flaherty hit two home runs, Jonathan Scoop hit a home run, and Steve Pearce hit a home run as the Orioles scored nine runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Bud Norris allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out five over 4.0 earnings but it was T.J. McFarland who ended up getting the win. For Thursday’s game the Orioles start Miguel Gonzalez who is 10-8 with a 3.94 ERA and he is 1-1 with a 3.83 ERA in his last three starts.
The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to an off-season of uncertainty as they grossly underperformed this year and they took another loss on Wednesday. Muneori Kawasaki and Josh Thole had four hits each and Jose Reyes and Ryan Goins had two hits each as the Blue Jays scored five runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Esmil Rogers allowed eight hits and six runs over 4.1 innings to take the loss. For Thursday’s game the Blue Jays start Mark Buehrle who is 12-9 with a 4.09 ERA for the season and 1-2 with a 6.60 ERA in his last three starts.
Baltimore is 4-1 in their last five games against a left-handed starter, 1-4 in their last five games as a home favorite, and 2-5 in Gonzalez’s last seven starts. Toronto is 4-1 on the road against a right-handed starter, 6-15 in game three of a series, and 2-6 in Buehrle’s last eight starts against the American League East. Toronto is 5-12 in their last 17 games in Baltimore.
The Orioles looked to be playing with purpose on Wednesday and it should carry over here as they get the win.
