Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Wednesday for game three of their four game series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are -110 favorites over the Angels with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The New York Yankees have their backs to the wall but they are fighting to the end as they took out the bats beating the Angels on Tuesday. Alfonaso Soriano had three hits including two home runs, Lyle Overbay had three hits, and Vernon Well shad two hits including a home run as the Yankees scored 14 runs on 19 hits. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia allowed three hits and three runs while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to get the win and level his record at 10-10. For Wednesday’s game the Yankees start Ivan Nova who allowed just one run last time out over eight innings but got a no-decision. For the season Nova has allowed 76 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 81 over 80 innings for a 5-4 record and a 2.92 ERA.
The Los Angeles Angels fought until the final out on Tuesday but they dug themselves too big of a hole for a comeback. Mark Trumbo had two hits including a home run, Mike Trout hit a three run home run, and J.B. Shuck had two hits as the Angels scored seven runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Jason Vargas allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out three over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-5 on the season. For Wednesday’s game the Angels start Jered Weaver who has won his last four decisions. For the season Weaver has allowed 90 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 82 over 103.1 innings for a 7-5 record and a 2.87 ERA.
New York is 5-1 in their last six home games, 6-2 in their last eight games as a home favorite, and 6-1 in Nova’s last seven starts as a home favorite. Los Angeles is 2-7 in their last nine games overall, 2-9 in their last 11 games as a road underdog, and 4-11 in Weaver’s last 11 starts as a road underdog. Los Angeles is 6-19 in their last 25 games in New York.
After 21 runs scored on Tuesday this total looks to be more than just a shade to the low side and my pick is the under.
