Oakland Raiders vs. Chicago Bears
The Oakland Raiders and the Chicago Bears battle it out in a week three NFL preseason matchup that could be a preview of the two of the teams drafting in the top five in next year’s NFL Draft. The Bears are -3.5 point favorites over the Raiders with an over/under point total set at 38.5.
The Oakland Raiders look to be an absolute mess once again this season with four QB’s on the roster that not one of them would have an easy time even making another team let alone starting. Last week we watched Matt Flynn run for his life when he wasn’t getting decked and we have been reminded all preseason long that Terrelle Pryor is a horrible alternative as a NFL QB. Darren McFadden is just about all the Raiders have these days but he can’t do it alone and what it has spelled for him in recent years as he tries to carry this sad excuse for a professional football team are a series of injuries. One of the worst jobs in football continues to be a Raiders receiver as either you have a QB who can’t get you the ball at all or one who hangs you out to dry putting you in position A to get decleated by a defender. There is precious little the Raiders defense can do as they will be on the field all day long and usually be put in bad spots by the inept offense with their only hope to being baled out being their exceptional kicking game.
The Chicago Bears aren’t looking any better than the Raiders this year and while a lot of the noise will surround Jay Cutler’s contract, the Bears won’t have to worry much as they will be drafting high enough to get a top tier draft choice to fill that spot. When Cutler isn’t getting sacked he has somehow gotten even better at splitting the numbers on a defenders jersey with the football. Matt Forte looks to be in solid form entering the season but as the Bears figure to be behind plenty it is unknown as to how much impact the running game can have. Brandon Marshall makes up for some of the balls that Cutler throws up for grabs by leaping and getting them but he needs help after the invisible season Alshon Jeffery a year ago. The Bears defense has some real stars like Lance Briggs, Julius Peppers, and Charles Tillman but we are going to find out if the defense can win games on their own as that will be the best chance the Bears have to find victory.
The Bears are road favorites in this one, which is more of an indication of just how sad and pathetic the Raiders figure to be more than the Bears, who were sacked seven times in week 1, being anything worth playing. This one figures to be a real mess even by games that don’t count standards and with the total set at 38.5 the bet play is the under. If you need to pick a side I lean towards taking the points as getting better than a field goal in a game where scoring three points is going to be a real feat seems to be a the better play.
