Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox
The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox ace off on Friday for game two of their series at Target Field.
The Twins are -125 favorites over the White Sox with an over/under run total set at 8.5.
The Minnesota Twins appeared to be headed towards a loss on Thursday but they rallied for the win. Trevor Plouffe had two hits including a home run, Clete Thomas ad two hits, and Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and Josh Willingham each had hits as the Twins scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings for a no decision as Jared Burton got the win to go to 2-6 on the season. For Friday’s game the Twins start Kevin Correia who beat the White Sox in his last start. For the season Correia has allowed 161 hits and 68 earned runs while striking out 77 over 133.1 innings for a 8-8 record and a 4.59 ERA.
The Chicago White Sox are having a tough season and Thursday’s loss summed it all up as they blew one that appeared to be in their grasp. Paul Konerko had two hits and Adam Dunn, Gordon Beckham, and Alejandro De Aza each had hits as the White Sox scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Andre Rienzo allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out two to get a no decision as Nate Jones blew the save and Ramon Troncoso took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season. For Friday’s game the White Sox start Jose Quintana who has lost two of his last three decisions. For the season Quintana has allowed 137 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 116 over 143.1 innings for a 6-4 record and a 3.70 ERA.
Minnesota is 6-1 in their last seven games against a left-handed starter, 11-4 in their last 15 games as a home favorite, and 2-7 in Correia’s last nine starts. Chicago is 22-50 on their last 72 games, 8-21 in their last 29 games as an underdog, and 2-5 in Quintana’s last seven starts against a team with a losing record. Chicago is 1-7 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The White Sox just can’t seem to do much right and they can do even less right on the road so my pick here is on the Twins.
