Baltimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays

The Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Monday for game one of their very important American League East series. The Rays are -125 favorites over the Orioles with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The Baltimore Orioles have had chances to improve their position in the post-season race but they have seldom taken advantage of them. The Orioles are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 35-26 at home this season, and they are five games back in the AL East and 3 games behind the Oakland A’s for the final wildcard spot in the AL. As a team the Orioles are hitting .264 with Chris Davis hitting .306, Adam Jones hitting .301, and Manny Machado hitting .296. The Orioles pitching staff has an ERA of 4.26 with the starters at 4.59 and the bullpen at 3.65. For game one against the Rays the Orioles start Chris Tillman who hasn’t lost since July 6th. For the season Tillman has allowed 135 hits and 60 earned runs while striking out 119 over 146 innings for a 14-3 record and a 3.70 ERA.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been hanging around the top of the AL East for the past several weeks but they have been unable to take over and sustain any kind of lead over the Red Sox. The Rays are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 29-29 on the road this season, and they are a game behind the Red Sox on the AL East standings but hold the number one Wildcard spot in the American League. As a team the Rays are hitting .261 with Wil Myers hitting .311, James Loney hitting .310, and Ben Zobrist hitting .273, and Evan Longoria hitting .271. The Rays pitching staff has an ERA of 3.84 with the starters at 3.89 and the bullpen at 3.72. For game one against the Orioles the Rays start David Price who three straight no decisions. For the season Price has allowed 115 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 100 over 126.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 3.28 ERA.
Baltimore is 8-2 in their last 10 game one of a series, 1-4 in their last five games as an underdog, and 23-8 in Tillman’s last 31 starts. Tampa Bay is 5-1 in their last six games, 1-4 in their last five games as a road favorite, and 41-19 in Price’s last 60 road starts. Tampa Bay is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two teams.
This one should be a pitcher’s battle and I like the under with my pick.
