Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves
The Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves face off on Wednesday in Miami for game three of their series. The Braves are -143 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The Miami Marlins fought the good fight on Tuesday, but in the end they just didn’t have enough as they fell to the Braves. Rob Brantley had two hits, including a home run and Logan Morrison and Adeiny Hechavarria each had two hits, as the Braves scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez allowed eight hits and five runs, while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 on the season. For Wednesday’s game, the Marlins start Jacob Turner, who took a loss in his last outing. For the season, Turner has allowed 40 hits and 12 earned runs, while striking out 30 over 47 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.30 ERA.
The Atlanta Braves continue to lead the NL East as they look to go wire to wire and get back to the post season. Justin Upton had three hits, including a home run, B.J. Upton had two hits, and Jason Heyward had a hit as the Braves scored six runs on 11 hits. Julio Teheran allowed seven hits and four runs, one earned, while striking out three over 7.1 innings to get the win and go to 7-4, while Craig Kimbrel earned his 24th save. For Wednesday’s game, the Braves start Paul Maholm who has lost three of his last five starts. For the season, Maholm has allowed 115 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 79 over 111 innings for a 9-7 record and a 3.81 ERA.
Miami is 6-3 in their last nine home games, 6-2 in their last eight games against a left-handed starter, and 5-0 in Turner’s last five home starts. Atlanta is 4-7 in their last 11 games as a road favorite, 37-16 in their last 53 games against the NL East, and 1-4 in Maholm’s last five starts against a team with a losing record. Atlanta is 21-7 in their last 28 games in Miami.
The Braves have gotten wins in the first two games, but I see the Marlins turning the tables in this one and getting the win.
