Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants
The Cincinnati Reds and the San Francisco Giants meet on Wednesday in Cincinnati for game three of their series. The Reds are -174 favorites over the Giants with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Cincinnati Reds had a huge night on Tuesday as the knocked off the Giants and starting pitcher Homer Bailey threw a no-hitter. Just one walk stood between Homer Bailey and a perfect game as he struck out nine facing 27 batters en route to his second no-hitter of his career to raise his record to 5-6 on the season. Brandon Phillips hit a home run, Shin-Soo Choo had two hits, and Joey Votto added a hit as the Reds scored three runs on seven hits in all. For Wednesday’s game the Reds start Tony Cingrani who has been working out of the bullpen for the past several weeks. For the season Cingrani has allowed 36 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 57 over 47.1 innings for a 3-0 record and a 3.42 ERA.
The San Francisco Giants simply had no answers offensively on Tuesday as they were no hit in Cincinnati. Gregor Blanco was the lone Giants base runner reaching on a walk as Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence and the rest of the Giants lineup simply couldn’t get a hit. Starting pitcher Tim Lincecum allowed six hits and three runs while striking out eight over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-9 on the year. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Barry Zito who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Zito has allowed 112 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 59 over 91.1 innings for a 4-6 record and a 4.53 ERA.
Cincinnati is 5-0 in their last five games against a left-handed starter, 6-2 in their last eight home games, and 4-1 in Cingrani’s last five starts. San Francisco is 1-7 in their last eight games following a loss, 1-9 in their last 10 games overall, and 22-8 in Zito’s last 30 starts. San Francisco is 4-10 in their last 14 games in Cincinnati.
I like the Reds a lot. They should take this one easily.
