Texas Rangers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers face off on Saturday in St. Louis for game two of their World Series rematch of two years ago. The Cardinals are -194 favorites over the Rangers with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The St. Louis Cardinals appeared to be off to a solid start on Friday but that lead was quickly gone as they ended up losing to the Rangers in extra innings. Allen Craig had two hits and Matt Carpenter, Carlos Beltran, and Yadier Molina each had hits ad the Cardinals scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Tyler Lyins allowed three hits and four runs while striking out one over just 1.2 innings but didn’t get a decision as Trevor Rosenthal took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. On Saturday the Cardinals look to bounce back with Shelby Miller who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Miller has allowed 64 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 96 over 86.1 innings for a 8-4 record and a 2.08 ERA.
The Texas Rangers looked to be in trouble early against the Cardinals on Saturday but they bounced back and eventually put it away to get the win. Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, and A.J. Pierzynski each had two hits as he Rangers scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Derek Holland allowed four hits and four runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to not get the decision as Neil COtts got the win to go to 4-1 and Joe Nathan earned his 23rd save of the year. For Saturday’s game the Rangers start Martin Perez who makes his second start of the season. In his first outing Perez allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out two over 5.1 innings to take the loss and come out with a 5.06 ERA.
St. Louis is 6-2 in their last eight interleague games, 37-19 in their last 56 games overall, and 5-0 in MIller’s last five home starts. Texas is 4-7 in their last 11 games overall, 3-7 in their last 10 road games, and 2-5 in their last seven interleague road games.
The bulk of the scoring ended early on Friday and I don’t see it starting up again here so my pick is on the under.
