New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins

The New York Mets and the Miami Marlins face off on Saturday at Citi Field for game one of their weekend series after being rained out on Friday. The Mets are -220 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under run total set at 6.5.
The New York Mets have had a rough start to the season and most of their best baseball has come in recent weeks. The Mets are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 12-17 at home this season, and they are 12.5 games back in the NL East. As a team the Mets are hitting .228 with Daniel Murphy hitting .290, David Wright hitting .276, and Marlon Byrd hitting .255. The Mets opponents are hitting .265 and the New York pitching staff has an ERA of 4.42. For game one against the Marlins the Mets start Matt Harvey who has no decisions in seven of his last eight outings. For the season Harvey has allowed 57 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 89 over 83 innings for a 5-0 record and a 2.17 ERA.
The Miami Marlins have far and away the worst record in all of baseball it looks like it is going to be a long year in Miami. The Marlins are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 6-24 on the road this season, and they are 21.5 games back in the NL East. As a team the Marlins are hitting .227 with Chris Coghlan hitting .283, Juan Pierre hitting .238, and Placido Polanco is hitting .234. The Marlins opponents are hitting .264 and the Miami pitching staff has an ERA of 4.12. For game one in New York the Marlins start Jose Fernandez who got a win in his last start. For the season Fernandez has allowed 47 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 60 over 59.1 innings for a 3-3 record and a 3.34 ERA.
The Mets are 3-8 in their last 11 home games, 1-4 in their last five games overall, and 5-2 in Harvey’s last seven home starts. Miami is 7-19 in their last 26 games following an off day, 19=54 in their last 73 games overall, and 4-1 in Fernandez’s last five starts against the NL East. Miami is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two.
The Mets are a big favorite here and while the line is out of whack the Mets are a better choice.
