Detroit Tigers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

The Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Tuesday in Detroit for game one of their series. The Tigers are -139 favorites over the Rays with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The Detroit Tigers haven’t been playing solid baseball of late but as the rest of the AL Central struggles it hasn’t hurt the Tigers too badly in the standings. The Tigers are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 17-9 at home thus far and they lead the AL Central. As a team the Tigers are hitting .279 with Miguel Cabrera is hitting .367, Jhonny Peralta is hitting .332, and Torii Hunter is hitting .316. The Tigers opponents are hitting .241 and the Detroit pitching staff has an ERA of 3.72. For game one against the Rays the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez who has been hit hard in two of his last three starts. For the season Sanchez has allowed 62 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 89 over 71 innings for a 5-5 record and a 2.79 ERA.
The Tampa Bay Rays are hanging around in the AL East standings as they have plenty of teams between them and first place but not all that many games. The Rays are 7-3 in their last 10 games, 14-15 on the road this season, and they are three games back in the standings. As a team the Rays are hitting .261 with James Loney hitting .326, Evan Longoria hitting .305, and Kelly Johnson hitting .280. The Rays opponents are hitting .239 and the Tampa Bay pitching staff has an ERA of 4.22. For game one at Comerica Park the Rays start Matt Moore who has yet to taste defeat this season. For the year Moore has allowed 39 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 57 over 62 innings for a 8-0 record and a 2.18 ERA.
Detroit is 12-4 in their last 16 games against the AL East, 22-9 in their last 31 home games against a left-handed starter, and 4-1 in Sanchez’s last five home starts. Tampa Bay is 7-1 in their last eight games overall, 4-9 in their last 13 games as a road underdog, and 12-1 in Moore’s last 13 starts. Tampa Bay is 3-12 in the last 15 meetings of these two.
While both of these teams have hitters and are hitting well this season this one looks like it will be tough to score.
