The Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Friday in Boston as they play game one of their series at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are -125 favorites over the Angels with an over/under run total set at 9.5.
The Boston Red Sox weren’t expected to do much this season but they are having a solid year as they lead the American League East. The Red Sox are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 19-13 at home this season, and they have a two game lead in the AL East. As a team the Red Sox are hitting .270 with Dustin Pedroia hitting .329, David Ortiz hitting .325, and Daniel Nava hitting .293. The Red Sox opponents are hitting .239 and the Boston pitching staff has an ERA of 3.73. For game one of this series the Red Sox start Felix Doubront who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Doubront has allowed 62 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 59 over 55.1 innings for a 4-2 record and a 4.88 ERA.
The Los Angles Angels are struggling and are horribly disappointing this year as they look to get some positive momentum going before the All Star break fro a possible second half of the season run. The Angels are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 11-16 on the road this season, and they are 10.5 games behind the Rangers in the AL West. As a team the Angels are hitting .259 with Howie Kendrick hitting .317, Mike Trout hitting .293, and Mark Trumbo hitting .267. The Angels opponents are hitting .261 and the Los Angeles pitching staff has an ERA of 4.28. For game one in Boston the Angels start Tommy Hanson Who lost in his last start which was his first appearance in almost four weeks. For the season Hanson has allowed 39 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 19 over 34.1 innings for a 2-2 record and a 4.19 ERA.
Boston is 4-1 in their last five games against a right-handed starter, 6-2 in their last eight home games, and 7-2 in Doubront’s last nine starts. Los Angeles is 11-3 in their last 14 games following an off day, 7-3 in their last 10 road games, and 1-4 in Hanson’s last five starts. Los Angeles has won five games in a row in Boston.
I am going to throw Hanson’s last start out as he hadn’t pitched in a long time but getting some of their big arms back is going to help the Angels and I see where they can snag a win here.
