Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Seattle Mariners

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Seattle Mariners face off on Tuesday at PNC Park for game one of their interleague series. The Pirates are -145 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping this is the year where they can hold on to success in the first half of the season and carry it over into the second half of the year. The Pirates are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 9-6 at home this season, and they are three games out of the lead in the NL Central. As a team the Pirates are hitting .241 with Starling Marte hitting .325, Garret Jones hitting .287, and Travis Snider hitting .286. The Pirates opponents are hitting .233 and the Pittsburgh pitching staff has an ERA of 3.85. For game one of the series the Pirates start James McDonald who didn’t earn a decision in his last two starts. For the season McDonald has allowed 29 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 25 over 29.2 innings for a 2-2 record and a 5.76 ERA.
The Seattle Mariners are an improved team over what we have seen from them in recent years but they still appear to be missing a few pieces to compete. The Mariners are 7-3 in their last 10 games, 6-10 on the road this season, and they are six games back in the AL West. As a team the Mariners are hitting .241 with Kyle Seager hitting .293, Kendrys Morales hitting .261, and Dustin Ackley hitting .248. The Mariners opponents are hitting .249 and the Seattle pitching staff has an ERA of 4.10. For game one in Pittsburgh the Mariners start Aaron Harang who has been hit hard this year. For the season Harang has allowed 25 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 17 over 18.2 innings for a 1-3 record and a 8.68 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 4-0 in their last four games following an off day, 6-2 in their last eight interleague games, and 2-5 in McDonald’s last seven home starts. Seattle is 4-0 in their last four game one of a series, 7-3 against the NL Central, and 3-8 in their last 11 road games. Seattle is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two.
Expect to see some scoring in this one and I like it to go over the total.
