New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners

The New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners send their aces to the mound as they face off for game one of their series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are -122 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 7.
The New York Yankees are playing their best baseball of the season and have the second best record in the American League. The Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10 games, 12-7 at home this season, and they have a game lead on the Orioles in the AL East. As a team the Yankees are hitting .255 with Robinson Cano hitting .299, Vernon Wells hitting .299, and Travis Hafner hitting .260. The Yankees opponents are hitting .258 and the New York pitching staff has an ERA of 3.65. For game one of the series the Yankees start C.C. Sabathia who has lost two of his last three decisions. For the season Sabathia has allowed 51 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 44 over 53 innings with a 4-3 record and a 3.23 ERA.
The Seattle Mariners are improved over the team we saw a season ago but they are still probably missing a piece or two if they hope to be serious contenders. The Mariners are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 7-11 on the road this season, and they are 6.5 games back in the AL West. As a team the Mariners are hitting .235 with Kyle Seager hitting .283, Kendrys Morales hitting .262, and Michael Saunders hitting .286. The Mariners opponents are hitting .244 with the Seattle pitching staff having an ERA of 3.96. For game one at New York the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who many believe is the best pitcher in all of baseball. For the season Hernandez has allowed 45 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 56 over 58.2 innings of work for a 5-2 record and a 1.53 ERA.
New York is 14-5 in their last 19 games as a favorite, 10-4 in their last 14 home games, and 89-39 in Sabathia’s last 128 starts. Seattle is 9-4 in their last 13 games, 4-9 in their last 13 road games, and 1-4 in Hernandez’s last five starts as an underdog. New York is 8-0 in Sabathia’s last eight starts against Seattle.
Both of these pitchers have had a lot of success against their opponents but Hernandez is just the best in the game and I can’t go against him here getting him as a dog.
