New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals

The Cards’ opponents are hitting .246 and the St. Louis pitching staff has an ERA of 2.89. For game one against the Mets the Cardinals start Lance Lynn who is off to an outstanding start this season. For the year Lynn has allowed 29 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 47 over 43 innings for a 5-1 record and a 2.72 ERA.
The New York Mets are sliding in the standings and they are looking to turn it around in a hurry before their season gets away from them. The Mets have lost three in a row, are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 5-8 on the road this season and hey are 5.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East. As a team the Mets are hitting .234 with David Wright hitting .297, Daniel Murphy hitting .258, and Ruben Tejada hitting .236. The Mets opponents are hitting .265 and the New York pitching staff has an ERA of 4.44. For Monday’s game New York starts Jeremy Hefner who is still looking for his first win of the year. For the season Hefner has allowed 32 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 25 over 35 innings of work for a 0-4 record and a 4.63 ERA.
St. Louis is 4-1 in their last five games against the NL East, 7-2 in their last nine game one of a series, and 6-0 in Lynn’s last six home starts against a team with a losing record. This one sets up to be a mismatch and there is no reason to look to deep into it as the Cardinals are the easy choice as the odds suggest.
