The Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves meet on Wednesday for game three of their series at Great American Ballpark. The Reds are -114 favorites over the Braves with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Cincinnati Reds never gave in on Tuesday as they battled back in the bottom of the ninth inning to get the win. Shin-Soo Choo had two home runs, Devin Mersoraco hit a home run, and and Joey Votto added two hits as the Reds scored five runs on nine hits in all. On the mound starting pitcher Homer Bailey allowed five hits and four runs while striking out seven over five innings to not factor in the decision as Jonathan Broxton got the win to go to 1-1 on the year. For Wednesday game Cincinnati starts Mike Leake who had a win in his last outing. For the season Leake has allowed 42 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 22 over 34.2 innings of work for a 2-1 record and a 4.15 ERA.
The Atlanta Braves looked ready to go up 2-0 in this series in Cincinnati but it wasn’t meant to be as they fell to the Reds on Tuesday. Brian McCann drove in two runs, Freddie Freeman had a hit and a RBI, and Andrelton Simmons had a hit and scored a run as the Braves scored four runs on five hits. On the mound starting pitcher Kris Medlen allowed four hits and two runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings but Craig Kimbrel blew his third save of the year and took the loss to fall to 0-1. For Wednesday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who has a no decision and a loss in his last two starts. For the season Minor has allowed 29 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 31 over 38.2 innings of work for a 3-2 record and a 3.26 ERA.
Cincinnati is 9-3 in their last 12 games as a favorite, 13-4 in their last 17 home games, and 1-4 in Leake’s last five starts against the NL East. Atlanta is 8-2 in their last 10 games as an underdog, 1-5 in their last six road games and 5-2 in Minor’s last seven starts following a team loss the previous day. Atlanta is 1-7 in their last eight games in Cincinnati.
The total in this one is set at eight and I have it coming in under the total.
