Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers meet on Tuesday for game two of their series in Anaheim. The rangers are -116 favorites over the Angels with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Los Angeles Angels looked to have game one against the Rangers in hand on Monday but they let it get away from them late and added another loss to their resume. Josh Hamilton had four hits, Howard Kendrick had two hits, and Chris Ianetta had a hit as the Angels scored six runs on nine hits in all. On the mound starting pitcher Joe Blanton allowed 12 hits and four runs over six innings to not factor in the decision but Scott Downs took a blown save and Ernesto Frieri allowed a run to take the loss and fall to 0-1 on the year. For Tuesday’s rematch the Angels start Jason Vargas who has struggled in his last two outings. For the season Vargas has allowed 27 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out eight over 14.2 innings of work for a 0-2 record and a 6.75 ERA.
The Texas Rangers won for the fourth time in a row on Monday and it moved them further ahead atop the AL West standings. A.J. Pierzynsi had two hits including a home run, Elvis Andrus and Mitch Moreland had three hits each, and Adrian Beltre and David Murphy each added two hits as the Rangers scored seven runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Derek Holland was let off the hook with a no decision as he allowed six runs off of six hits and four walks while striking out seven over 5.2 innings as Tanner Scheppers got the win to go to 2-0 and Joe Nathan earned his sixth save. For Tuesday’s game Texas starts Alexi Ogando who is coming off of his worst start of the year. For the season Ogando has allowed 18 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 19 over 19 innings for a 2-1 record and a 3.32 ERA.
Los Angeles is 5-0 in their last five home games against a right handed starter, 5-2 in their last seven games overall, and 3-8 in their last 11 against the AL West. Texas is 44-21 in their last 65 against a team with a losing record, 3-7 in their last 10 game two of a series, and 6-1 in Ogando’s last seven starts.
The total in this one is set at 8 and I have this one going over that number and that is my pick for this game.
