Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics
The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s face off on Saturday in Houston for game two of their AL West series. The Athletics are -125 favorites over the Astros with an over/under run line set at 8.
The Houston Astros got a win in their first division game ever as a member of the AL West but the problem is they haven’t won since including a loss to the Athletics on Friday. On Friday Jose Altuve, Matt Dominguez, and Marwin Gonzalez each had two hits as they scored three runs on nine hits. On the mound starter Brad Peacock allowed three hits and two runs while striking out five over 4.1 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game Houston starts Bud Norris who got the win in the Astros only win of the season. In his last outing Norris allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out five over 5.2 innings of work for a 3.18 ERA.
The Oakland Athletics struggled in their season opening series against the Mariners but they looked razor sharp in their series opener at Houston. Coco Crisp had three hits including a home run, John Jaso had two hits, and Jed Lowrie and Josh Reddickk had hits as the A’s scored eight runs on 10 hits in all. On the mound starter Daniel Strally allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out 11 to get the win as the bullpen allowed just two hits and a run the rest of the way. For Saturday’s game Oakland starts Bartolo Colon who returns after being suspended for 50 games. Before the suspension last year Colon was 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA allowing 161 hits and striking out 91 over 152.1 innings of work.
Houston is 16-36 in their last 52 games as a home underdog, 24-67 in their last 91 games overall, and 6-22 against the American League West. Oakland is 17-5 in their last 22 games against the AL West, 5-9 in their last 14 road games, and 5-1 in Colon’s last six starts. Oakland is 6-1 in the last seven meetings of these two.
The question mark here is which Bartolo Colon are we going to get but I have to believe he took PED’s for a reason and without them I am less confident he can go too deep here while Norris looked sharp last Sunday against Texas.
