Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies face off on Saturday Night in game two of their series at Petco Park. The Padres are -113 favorites over the Rockies with an over/under run total set at 7.
The San Diego Padres struggles continued on Friday as they fought the good fight but in the end just didn’t have enough to get their third win of the year. Yonder Alonso hit his second home run of the season and Nick Hundley and Will Venable each had two hits as the Padres scored five runs on nine hits in all. Starter Tyson Ross pitched well allowing five hits and three runs and striking out eight over 5.1 innings but he got a no decision as Luke Gregorson got the blown save and Huston Street took the loss allowing two home runs in the ninth inning. For Saturday’s game the Padres start Edison Volquez who is still looking for his first win of the year. In his prior two starts Volquez has allowed 15 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out five over nine innings for a 10.00 ERA.
The Colorado Rockies are looking to bounce back from an awful 2012 and thus far they are getting the job done and contending. On Friday Dexter Fowler hit two home runs, Joshua Rutledge hit a home run, and Todd Helton had three hits as the Rockies scored seven times on nine hits. Starter Jon Garland allowed five hits and three runs while striking out four over six innings to not get a decision as Rex Brothers got the win, his first of the year, and Rafael Betancourt earned his fourth save. For Saturday’s game Colorado starts Jhoulys Chacin who got the win in his last start. Chacin is 1-0 on the year allowing nine hits and two runs while striking out eight over 13.1 innings of work for a 1.35 ERA.
San Diego is 20-7 in their last 27 home games against a team with a losing road record, 1-4 following a loss, and 5-1 in Volquez’s last six starts as a home underdog. Colorado is 8-0 in their last eight games as a favorite, 7-16 against the NL West, and 4-1 in Chacin’s last five starts against a team with a losing record. Colorado has won the last four meetings of these two.
We saw 12 runs in Friday’s game and Petco just isn’t known for big numbers so look for it to return to normal today and for this one to stay under the total.
