Memphis Grizzlies vs. Houston Rockets
The Memphis Grizzlies return home to face James Harden and the Houston Rockets from the Toyota Center tonight. The Grizzlies are -5 point favorites over the Rockets with an over/under point total set at 197.
Head to head, the Rockets are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings in Memphis while the home team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings and the favorite is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings. The Grizzlies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Western Conference, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Rockets on the other hand are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
The Memphis Grizzlies are still in a good position to finish with home-court advantage in the first round of the upcoming playoffs, however, they are going to have to improve on their recent play. Memphis returns home having dropped five of eight and are coming off a 108-101 loss in New York on Wednesday, a game in which they trailed by as many as 30 points. As of today, the Grizzlies sit in fifth place in the West, one game behind the Denver Nuggets.
Also in line for a postseason berth are the Houston Rockets whose three-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night with their 100-91 loss to the visiting Indiana Pacers. Houston, who weren’t expected to be in the playoff picture at all season sits just one game back of the sixth place Golden State Warriors and are three games clear of the eighth placed Los Angeles Lakers.
With both teams coming off losses and with playoff seeding crucial with every passing contest, this is a big game for both the Grizzlies and the Rockets tonight. While Houston has won three of the past four meetings against Memphis, the home team has dominated this series of late as it has won the last nine straight, while also covering in eight of those games. The Rockets are only 14-21 away from home this season and with Memphis having lost two-straight, I think they bounce back tonight.
