Indiana Pacers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The Indiana Pacers welcome the Los Angeles Lakers to town on Friday night. The Pacers are -9.5 point favorites over the Lakers with an over/under point total set at 190.
Head to head, the road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings. The Pacers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games overall. The Lakers on the other hand are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
There’s no doubt the biggest news heading into this game is the injury that Kobe Bryant suffered in the Lakers 96-92 loss in Atlanta on Wednesday as Bryant severely sprained his left ankle after coming down on Atlanta’s Dahntay Jones’ foot late in the fourth quarter and will be out indefinitely. Kobe now joins Pau Gasol on the sideline while Earl Clark is also questionable after hurting is ankle against the Hawks as well.
While Los Angeles has improved their play in the last month of action, they have still struggled on the road against the better teams in the NBA as they are just 1-5 ATS in their last six road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. On the other hand, the Pacers have beaten up on the lesser teams in the league at home as they are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
I really don’t think the Lakers stand a chance without Bryant and Clark here. Teams often rise to the occasion when their star player is out with an injury, but Indiana is one of the most dominate home teams in the league and the Lakers have struggled in recent road games at Denver, Oklahoma City, Miami and Boston, and that was with Brant in the lineup. Take the Pacers in what looks like the strongest play on the board tonight.
