Detroit Pistons vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Detroit Pistons square off against the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night from the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Pistons are -1 point favorites over the Timberwolves with an over/under point total set at 196.5.
Head to head, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings while the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Pistons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games playing on 2 days rest, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games. The Timberwolves on the other hand are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
When you are only a one point favorite against one of the worst road teams in the league, you know you have problems. Granted, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been playing better of late and they are getting some players back from injury, but this is a team that has won just three of their past 16 games. Their opponents tonight in Detroit have been just about the worst team in all of basketball over the last couple of months, even worse than the Charlotte Bobcats, a team they defeated 92-91 on Saturday to break their 10-game losing streak.
The Pistons are bad, there’s no two ways about it, but this team actually plays pretty good at home against the weaker teams as they are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a road winning percentage of .400. Detroit has dropped nine of 11 at home, but eight of those games were against likely playoff teams while the other three came against Dallas, Washington and New Orleans.
This isn’t going to be easy, but surely this is a good chance for the Pistons to break through for a long awaited home win tonight. Like I touched on earlier, the Timberwolves are getting better as they get players back from injury, but this is still one of the worst travelling teams in the league and I think they just fall short here.
