Penn St. Nittany Lions vs. Purdue Boilermakers

The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Purdue Boilermakers face off on Tuesday in Happy Valley in Big Ten college basketball action. The Boilermakers are -3 point favorites over the Nittany Lions with an over/under point total set at 125.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are still looking for their first Big Ten conference win of the year and they are all alone in last place in the standings. PSU is 0-9 in the Big 10, 7-6 at home this season, and they have played the 45th ranked schedule in the country. As a team Penn State is averaging 61.2 points, 9.2 assists, and they are shooting 38.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.5 points, 12 assists, and their opponents are shooting 42.5 percent. D.J. Newbill is averaging 15.7 points and 5.9 rebounds, Jermaine Marshall is averaging 15 points, and Ross Travis is averaging 6.5 points and 6.8 rebounds. Penn State is having a rough year and it looks like it is going to stay that way.
The Purdue Boilermakers have lost three of their last four games and while they have fought the good fight for most of the year the season looks like it is getting away from them. Purdue is 2-4 on the road this season, 4-5 in the Big Ten, and they are in seventh place in the conference standings. As a team Purdue is averaging 65.5 points, 13.7 assists, and they are shooting 41.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.8 points, 12.4 assists, and their opponents are shooting 39.6 percent. Terone Jonson is averaging 12.7 points, A.J. Hammons is averaging 11 points and 6.5 rebounds, and D.J. Byrd is averaging 10.2 points. Purdue is just lacking experience and are playing for the future more than anything else.
Penn State is 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games and 2-5-1 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread. Purdue is 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six road games, 5-0 against the spread in their last five games against a team with a losing record, and 2-5 against th spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread. The favorite is 14-6 against the spread in the last 20 meetings of these two.
The total is set at 125 and while that seems very low I still have this one staying under that number.
