Michigan St. Spartans vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Michigan State Spartans and the Minnesota Golden Gophers face off on Wednesday in East Lansing in a Big Ten college basketball match up. The Spartans are -2.5 point favorites over the Golden Gophers with an over/under point total set at 131.
The Michigan State Spartans are having another solid year and are tied for second place in the Big Ten. MSU has a 7-2 record in the Big 10, 13-0 record at home, and they have won seven of their last eight games. As a team Michigan State is averaging 69.7 points, 14.1 assists, and they are shooting 46.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 59.4 points, 11.1 assists, and their opponents are shooting 38.7 percent. Keith Appling is averaging 14 points per game, Gary Harris is averaging 12.8 points, and Branden Dawson is averaging 10.6 points and 6.8 rebounds. Michigan State plays the same style we have seen from them for years with solid passing and rebounding being the basis for their game plan.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers aren’t playing their best basketball of the season but they have won back to back games and are in sixth place in the Big Ten. Minnesota is 5-4 in the Big Ten, 3-3on the road, and 1-3 against teams ranked in the top 25. As a team Minnesota is averaging 73.2 points, 16.1 assists, and they are shooting 46.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 61.4 points, 12 assists, and their opponents are shooting 39.9 percent. Andre Hollins is averaging 14.2 points, Rodney Williams is averaging 12 points and 5.6 rebounds, Austin Hollins is averaging 11.1 points, and Joe Coleman is averaging 10 points. Minnesota seems to have lost something over the past few weeks and a win here would surely give them a boost.
Michigan State is 5-11-1 against the spread in their last 17 games following a win, 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six home games, and 1-4-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread. Minnesota is 10-3 against the spread in their last 13 Big Ten games, 11-1 against the spread in their last 12 road games, and 4-1 against the spread following a win. The home team has covered the spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
I look for this to go over the point total of 131.
