Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Indiana Hoosiers

The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Indiana Hoosiers face off on Thursday in Big Ten college basketball action. The Hoosiers are -7.5 point favorites over the Illini with an over/under point total set at 148.
The Illinois Fighting Illini have lost their last three games in a row and have struggled since starting Big 10 play this season. Illinois has fallen to 10th place in the conference standings, they are 2-7 in the Big Ten, and they are 8-4 at home this season. As a team Illinois is averaging 72.1 points, 10.7 points, and they are shooting 43 percent while defensively they are allowing 67 points, 12 assists, and their opponents are shooting 42.6 percent. Brandon Paul is averaging 17.4 points, D.J. Richardson is averaging 11.8 points, and Tracy Abrams is averaging 11.4 points. Illinois has once again faded badly and don’t look like they will be a factor in March.
The Indiana Hoosiers have reclaimed the number one ranking in the country as they have won five games in a row including a big win over Michigan on Saturday. Indiana is 8-1 in the Big Ten, 4-0 on the road this season, and they have played the 26th ranked schedule in the country. As a team Indiana is averaging 83.8 points, 15.8 assists, and they are shooting 50.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 61 points, 10.3 assists, and their opponents are shooting 37.7 percent. Cody Zeller is averaging 16.3 points and 8.3 rebounds, Victor Oladipo is averaging 14 points, and Christian Watford is averaging 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds. This is the second time this season Indiana is ranked number one and they don’t have an easy road ahead.
Illinois is 4-11 against the spread following a game where they didn’t cover the spread, 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games overall, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games. Indiana is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 5-0 against the spread in their last five Thursday games, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning percentage over .600. The home team ahs covered the spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Illinois is just tough to figure out and instead of trying to do that I will take Indiana here laying the points.
