South Carolina Gamecocks vs. LSU Tigers
The LSU Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks face off on Wednesday in Baton Rouge in a SEC college basketball match up. The Tigers are -10.5 point favorites over the Gamecocks.
The LSU Tigers have dropped their first two games in SEC play this season and they look to pick up their first win here. LSU is 8-1 at home this far and they have played the 167th ranked schedule in the country. As a team LSU is averaging 74.2 points, 40.5 rebounds, and they are shooting 43.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.2 points, 10.3 assists, and their opponents are shooting 40.2 percent. Shavon Coleman is averaging 13.1 points and 8.4 rebounds, Andre Stringer is averaging 11.4 points, and Anthony Hickey is averaging 11.3 points. LSU appears to be a better team than they were last season but it isn’t adding up to SEC wins.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have lost their first two SEC games this season and they hope to grab their first win here. South Carolina has played the 340th ranked schedule in the country and they are 0-2 on the road thus far. As a team South Carolina is averaging 72.5 points, 13.9 assists, and they are shooting 45.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.5 points, 12.5 assists, and their opponents are shooting 44.2 percent. Brenton Williams is averaging 11.5 points, Lakeem Jackson is averaging 9.8 points and 7.0 rebounds, Mindaugas Kacinas is averaging 7.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. South Carolina is a better team than they were a year ago but that isn’t saying much based on last year’s performance.
LSU is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall, 2-5 against the spread against the SEC, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. South Carolina is 4-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 7-15 against the spread following a loss. The road team has covered in seven of the last eight meetings of these two.
This is a big number and while I like LSU to win, the number is too big to lay the points.
