Michigan St. Spartans vs. Wisconsin Badgers
The Wisconsin Badgers and the Michigan State Spartans face off on Tuesday in Madison in a battle of Big Ten teams. The Badgers are -4.5 point favorites over the Spartans with an over/under point total set at 123.
The Wisconsin Badgers are looking to bounce back from their first Big Ten loss of the season as they were handled by Iowa on Saturday. Wisconsin has a brutal stretch of eight games with six of the games coming against teams ranked in the top 25. As a team Wisconsin is averaging 70.2 points, 14.1 assists, and they are shooting 44.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 55.8 points, 7.8 assists, and their opponents are shooting 40.1 percent. Jared Berggren is averaging 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds, Ryan Evans is averaging 11.2 points and 7.6 rebounds, and Ben Brust is averaging 10.7 points and 5.8 rebounds. Wisconsin has shown they can play against anyone this season.
The Michigan State Spartans have taken over first place in the Big Ten after knocking off Ohio State on Saturday. MSU is 3-2 on the road this season and 5-1 in Big 10 play. As a team Michigan State is averaging 70.3 points, 14.3 assists, and they are shooting 46.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.4 points, 11.3 assists, and their opponents are shooting 38.2 percent. Keith Appling is averaging 13.8 points, Gary Harris is averaging 12.6 points, and Branden Dawson is averaging 10.1 points and 6.3 rebounds. Just when the public is ready to write off Sparty they seem to over achieve just about every year.
Wisconsin is 3-8 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games against a team with a winning road record, and 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. The home team has covered the spread in 13 of the last 17 meetings of these two.
This has the makings of the type of game that has so many variables it just makes it a tough call but if we get a fired up home crowd like I expect this one could end up being one sided.
