Kentucky Wildcats vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles
The Kentucky Wildcats and the Eastern Michigan Eagles face off on Wednesday in Lexington at Rupp Arena for an early start in college basketball action. The Wildcats ate -27 point favorites over the Eagles.
The expectation was sky high for the Kentucky Wildcats coming into this season but thus far it has been a growing process and the Cats haven’t really lived up to expectations. UK has played the 35th ranked schedule in the nation going 7-1 at home but going 0-3 against teams ranked in the top 25. As a team Kentucky is averaging 78.3 points, 15.8 assists, and they are shooting 48.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.7 points, 10.8 assists, and they are allowing their opponents to shoot 38.6 percent. Archie Goodwin is averaging 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds, Alex Poythress is averaging 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, and Kyle Wiltjer is averaging 11.6 points, and Nerlens Noel is averaging 10.5 points and 9.0 rebounds. It’s safe to say John Calipari’s Wildcats haven’t played their best basketball yet.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles followed their upset win over Purdue by losing their next three games and they finally got back to winning in their last Friday. EMU has played the 82nd ranked schedule in the nation but in most cases it has looked like they have over scheduled. As a team Eastern Michigan is averaging 59.4 points, 10.9 assists, and they are shooting 40 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.9 points, 15.3 assists, and their opponents are shooting 38.3 percent. Derek Thompson is averaging 12.2 points, Daylen Harrison is averaging 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds, and Glenn Bryant is averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. Eastern Michigan will need to play way over their heads to stay competitive in this tough spot.
Kentucky is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games, 5-0 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record, and 1-4-1 against the spread following a loss. Eastern Michigan is 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, 4-12 against the spread in their last 16 road games against a team with a home winning percentage better than .600, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five Wednesday games.
Kentucky is laying a bundle here and rightfully so as it will be understandable for EMU to get lost in this one. Look for Kentucky to pour it on in their last game before starting their SEC schedule.
