Indiana Hoosiers vs. Penn St. Nittany Lions

The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Indiana Hoosiers face off on Monday in a Big Ten College Basketball match up in Happy Valley.  The Hoosiers are -17 point favorites over the Nittany Lions with an over/under point total set at 138.

The Penn State Nittany Lions opened their Big Ten schedule last Thursday with a loss at Wisconsin and they will look to get their first conference win in this spot. PSU is 7-1 at home thus far this season playing the 97th ranked schedule in the nation and they are 0-1 against teams ranked in the top 25. As a team Penn State is averaging 64.3 points, 9.6 assists, and they are shooting 41.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.5 points, 11 assists, their opponents are shooting 40.5 percent. D.J. Newbill is averaging 15 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, Jermaine Marshall is averaging 14.9 points, and Ross Travis is averaging 7.2 points and 7.7 rebounds. Penn State may not be a contender in the Big Ten but they aren’t likely to get blown out too often.

The Indiana Hoosiers were the preseason number one and the choice by many to win it all but the Hoosiers and the public found out that winning it all and running the table are two different things. IU has been convincing in their wins and they have fallen just once, to Butler, and are ranked fifth in the nation. As a team Indiana is averaging 87.9 points, 17.5 assists, and they are shooting 51 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.6 points, 9.4 assists, and their opponents are shooting 36.1 percent. Cody Zeller is averaging 16.6 points and 8.1 assists, Victor Oladipo is averaging 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds, Christian Watford is averaging 12.6 points and 6.4 rebounds, and Will Sheehy is averaging 12.4 points. Indiana is going to have a chance to win every game but there aren’t going to be too many easy games in the Big Ten this season.

Penn State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five Big Ten games, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games against a team with a winning road record. Indiana is 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 road games against a team with a winning home record, and 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 Monday games. The home team has covered the spread in the last four meetings of these two.

The line is set at 17 and while Indiana is much the best that is a lot of points to lay on the road in a conference game.
